The worst Civil War prequel.

Someone came by the shop and donated a short box full of comics…not really much of interest in there, the usual smattering of random ’90s Marvel comics, but it did have:

nineteen copies of West Coast Avengers Annual #3 from 1988. That’s a book value of up to tens of dollars!

You know, I’ve never actually read this particular comic. Now’s my chance to…well, probably not do so again.

That’s our JJJ!

Hi pals…I’m going to enter Low Content Mode for at least today, maybe the week, as I need a little time to recharge the ol’ batteries. But I’m still here, keepin’ an eye on you, so you better watch yourselves!

In the meantime, drink in that portrait of J. Jonah Jameson as drawn by Steve Ditko, in an image I personally took directly from one of the early issues of Amazing Spider-Man back when I had a whole lotta them (like these two).

I’ll be back on Wednesday with a little somethin’ or ‘nother…or maybe even a full post, we’ll see how I’m doing!

The state of the weblog.

Don’t worry, I’m not going anywhere, but things were a bit sparse this week, mostly due to holiday/other stuff. And next week I finally have my much-delayed eye surgery on Wednesday, so likely there won’t be a post then, either.

Next Monday, I’ll have a post. Next Friday, I’ll have a certain post up that, if you’ve been reading this site for any length of time, won’t come as any surprise. I have in fact been working on that post well in advance, which has taken up the little blogging time I did have, so it’s a tricky balancing act to be sure.

But, pals, just hang in there. Things should be back to normal in a few days after I get through and recover from surgery. I’ve said plenty of times before that I’m never going to be that blog that says “sorry for the lack of posts, be back soon!” and then is never active ever again. If the time comes to shutter the site, I’ll tell you, but that time isn’t now, or in the near future. You can’t get rid of me that easily.

Besides, I still have to finish the Final ’90s Countdown and the most recent Question Time posts. And it’s probably time for another entry about the Death of Superman.

My apologies…

…but I have had full, tiring days of late, which is why my posts have been delayed slightly all week. As most of you probably know, I tend to write these very late the night before they are published, but for the last few days I’ve been too tired at that time to put a wrap on any coherent writing. I should be back in the game next week, with any luck.

Also, it’s been pointed out that my entry on Meat Cake from Wednesday doesn’t actually touch upon what the comic itself is about. I’ll add that detail when I get a chance.

Thanks for your patience, and I’ll see you on Monday.

Eep!

Time got away from me and didn’t finish today’s post (the next installment in the Final ’90s Countdown).

I’ll try to have it finished later today, but in the meantime, let’s celebrate Marvel’s 616 Day with these two old posts of mine — 1 an’ a 2 — in which I try to figure oiut why Marvel Earth is #616, specifically.

The updates will continue until morale improves.

So the surgery that was scheduled for Wednesday has been postponed, which is in fact good news. There are two procedures to treat the problem in my eye, one of which I had a preference for over the other. Now, I had a complication in the eye upon which the surgery was going to occur, and if I hadn’t responded well to the new medication, we would have had to rushed into the surgery and done the procedure I did not want. However, since the medicine is doing the trick, we can wait for that eye to calm down a bit and then do the procedure I do want.

Phew. Anyway, while that medication is helping one issue, it does have the side effect of making me lethargic and a little wobbly, which is not ideal. But it’s only for a bit, so I’ll be fine.

I’m still taking it easy on this site for the time being, but I’ll still do some short form yapping on Bluesky, such as Tuesday’s thread on my feelings about “professionally graded” comics written in celebration of my somehow acquiring 5,000 followers on that site.

Now, a surgery is still in my future, there’s no getting around that. I won’t know when for sure until probably my next appointment, but I suspect it’ll be within the the next couple of weeks. I’ll keep you posted. With posts. Here on my posting site.

Thanks for reading as always, and I’ll be back soon.

Still on a break.

…Especially since I’m on a new medication that’s really throwing me for a loop. Still don’t know if the surgery is happening this week for sure or not, but supposedly my early Monday morning appointment will finally nail down what we’re doing. Probably shouldn’t use the word “nail” in association with eye surgery.

Anyway, you should pick up the new Supergirl #1, coming out this week, and if you haven’t got your copy yet, Blood and Thunder #1, the sci-fi action book from last week, is a good one to check out.

I hope everyone is doing okay out there, and with any luck I’ll be back to proper blogging here soon. Thanks for reading, pals.
